How we score products
Every product featured on WhatSmartHome receives a weighted score out of 10 based on seven criteria that reflect what matters most to real households, especially renters and condo owners.
We do not accept payment for placement, and our scores are not influenced by affiliate relationships. If a product scores poorly, we say so.
The WhatSmartHome Score
Our overall score is a weighted average of seven individual ratings:

How we gather information
We research each product using manufacturer specifications, verified user reviews, community feedback from forums like Reddit, and where possible, hands-on evaluation. Pricing is checked against major retailers at the time of publication and updated regularly.

WhatSmartHome has an editorial bias toward products that are:
